My approach to food is actually quite simple: aim to fill your plate at each meal with at least 75% fiber-packed plant foods, and less space will remain (on your plate and in your belly!) for the more processed, life-draining foods.
And that last 25%? It all comes down to you. A major reason that diets fail in the long run is because we are trying to subscribe to a highly specific regimen that worked for someone else, but isn’t necessarily the best fit for us. In trying to follow the diet perfectly, we often turn off our own intuition and instinct and lose touch with our body’s unique needs!
I’ve had clients lose excess weight, balance hormones, and transform their energy while sticking with a vegan diet. On the flip side, I’ve had clients who thrive on a more Paleo-based approach to eating. To put it another way, one person’s food truly can be another person’s poison.
The takeaway: When we fill our diet with more God-made real food, and steer away from highly processed fake foods, we begin to free ourselves from the grip of addictive substances like processed sugar and chemical ingredients. My clients are often surprised at their ability to then tune in to what their body truly wants and needs to thrive. Hint: it’s usually not doughnuts and fries!
Finding a diet that is right for your body is essential, but only part of your recipe for complete health.
The Core Four™ is a framework I created to help my clients approach nourishment beyond the plate, developing a psychology-based mindfulness about the emotions we bring to our food. I believe that embracing the four pillars – Self-Care, Connection, Creativity, and Play – is the essential puzzle piece to vibrancy and glow-from-within health. Finding a diet that is right for your body is only part of the picture. The reality is, if your Core Four™ is neglected, your health will suffer.
So what are The Core Four™? Here’s a sneak peek:
I love helping my clients identify meaningful practices in each of these four areas and then watching how much easier it is for them to truly reach their food and health goals!
